100% of tequila will be “deforestation free” by 2027

Date In 2023, the tequila agroindustry avoided the deforestation of 7,000 hectares through the ARA (Environmental Responsible Agave in spanish) program. According to Ramón González Figueroa, director of the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT in spanish), a plan has been developed where there is an eligibility map and where any farmer can consult a technological application to see if their land is eligible or not to make tequila plantations. These are the first 7,000 hectares of a total of 440,000 planted with agave in the 181 municipalities of the five states that make up the Tequila Denomination of Origin (Jalisco, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit and Tamaulipas).
